Hi,

I'm Patrick. I've been lurking for a while, figure I should introduce myself. I'm not exactly sure what else to add to my introduction, and coupled with the fact that I'm generally somewhat reserved/private, I think the only thing I have to say at this point is "hello"!

I discovered SSB while poking around at the other decentralized/federated social networks. I was immediately impressed by the fact that the protocol description was forefront. Most of the other options in this space seem more "run this code" vs "implement this protocol"; I'd much rather have a well designed protocol as a starting point. The more I dug into the design of SSB, the more impressed I was (and still am).

I'm looking forward to learning more about SSB, and of course using it more too!

Hi Patrick!

SSB is way cool, it's a nice medium to make friends with. What sorts of non-computery stuff do you usually do? I've been in a lull lately but really wanting to start cooking more.

Hi Christian nice to meet you!

you've eliminated a good portion of the things I usually do by exempting the field of "computery stuff"

but related to your desire to cook more, I've been honing my sourdough bread skills:
boule of sourdough bread

that one was pretty good, but every loaf still feels like it could go either way...

it's a pretty chill thing to pickup (mostly just waiting for microbes to do their thing), but there is a good amount of technique to learn and practice, and lots of ways to experiment. And at least IMO, it's nice to have a more tactile kind of hobby to compliment the fact that "computery stuff" is mostly mental load; at the end of a day I find it harder to motivate myself to cram in anything too academic, but I can still absorb some things that involve muscle memory.

I also do a bit of cycling, mostly now just for getting around. I got a bakfiets cargobike a few years ago that I haul my kids around in -- a super useful and enjoyable bicycle esp if you don't have a car.

I swim a bit too. I used to be very in to underwater hockey, which got me into swimming and snorkling, but I moved to NYC a while ago and it's been hard to find a pool, players, time etc so now I just mostly just swim "normally" ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hi Fรกbio nice to meet you!

I just saw your message, maybe I need to connect to more pubs; still figuring out my intuition on how SSB propagates...

also I noticed that on manyver.se my img doesn't show up, I think because of markdown differences. so for that reason, and because I'm trying to understand manyver.se issue#676 I'm going to repost it in what i think is manyver.se friendly markdown
