@Solène I love this idea and project. The form of trying something for a week, with others, and writing about it. I enjoyed reading the reflections.
For me right now, I'm trying to get off the cloud with a bunch of things currently, which is taking my personal-computer-experiments-energy for the moment, so don't want to also do this experiment simultaneously, but I could see doing more experiments in the future, also just as a practice for bringing mindfulness to what I'm doing at the computer at all lol
Just thought I'd share that I appreciated it
Yeah, AppleScript is IPC (under the hood it is basically all AppleEvents) but it doesn't feel like IPC. The Arexx model is more explicit as it is being presented as IPC right?
Some things I enjoy about the NewtonOS:
- Soups): Their database-as-filesystem paradigm. There no such things as files on a Newton, there are soup entries, and a rich way of querying them. This tutorial is great at giving a glimpse how it works.
- NewtonScript: The high-level language used to program Newton Applications (aka Packages). It looks like JS if JS was inspired by Pascal and not C. It has a neat inheritance model which is prototypical inheritance but "with two parent slots" that greatly simplified programming GUI apps.
